What is a Virtual Restoration?
A Virtual Restoration is an accurate 3D computer model of
a building that no longer exists, or that is in a state of
decay or ruin. These Virtual Restorations will allow anyone
who has access to the web to view images of the ‘restored’
building or take a virtual walkthrough tour.
Why create a Virtual Restoration?
The project aims to provide wide and easy access to Virtual
Restorations of important buildings, with the following benefits:
| >> |
|
raised
awareness of those building which can still be saved |
| >> |
|
access
to Virtual versions of those buildings that are lost |
| >> |
|
a rich
educational resource |
| >> |
|
an
archive of important buildings |
Who will commission a Virtual Restoration?
Our expectation is that Virtual Restorations will
be commissioned by a mix of public bodies and private groups
or individuals.
Who will be able to use a Virtual Restoration?
As a repository of 3D Computer ‘restorations’
of historically or architecturally significant buildings or
places VirtualRestoration.org will provide free access to
the Virtual Restoration archive to anyone for educational
or other non commercial use.
All work created by Virtual Restoration will be donated to
relevant organisations (Historic Scotland, RIAS, National
Buildings Preservation Trust etc.) or eductational establishments
(Universities, Schools, Libraries) for non commercial use.
Additionally, over time, a significant historical archive
will be created that will act as a resource for many years
to come.
