Barclays Buchanan Wharf

Animated Film & Augmented Reality Application

Soluis have been working closely with Drum Property Group, the developer behind the Buchanan Wharf development in Glasgow.

When complete, the Clydeside site will provide more than 1 million square feet of Grade A office space, residential accommodation, a mix of local amenities, and landscaped public spaces.

It was important that the visual quality of the content was of the highest order given the high profile nature of this development and the very large audience it would reach through the national media.

Soluis developed a set of marketing images and animated film, which included information on the history of this site, transport connections, and the quality of the development itself – highlighting the excellent public realm spaces that are being developed as part of the master-plan.

Visual quality was the key driver for the animation so the decision was made to use 3Ds Max and V-Ray to render the animation at Full HD 1080P for broadcast quality.

The on-site AR app was chosen to demonstrate that this project is right at the cutting edge of new technology, and it highlighted very effectively the huge change that this derelict area of the city is about to undergo.

The on-site AR app used a version of the 3D model developed in Unity to overlay the building onto the land it will stand on in the future, allowing users to preview the scale and design attributes of the project.

The on-site AR app was used at the official Press Launch with First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Barclays COO Paul Compton shown using the app in the national press and television reports.

The film and AR app has enabled Barclays and associated project stakeholders including Glasgow City Council to make a very positive impact with the news about this transformational development for the city, the single biggest inward investment to have ever come to Scotland.

“The film looks great – well done and thank you for all your efforts”
